It is time for another of my Google Analytics traffic reports. This is my first report in 2014 and I will as always share my numbers with you, my readers, and try to give you my thoughts on my numbers. For new visitors of this blog I can tell you that I normally create these kind of reports ever quarter of the year making this one the first of four in 2014.
Traffic Types:
- Search Engines: 43.88%
- Direct traffic: 22.95%
- Social traffic: 17.58%
- Referring Sites: 15.52%
- Other traffic: 0.06%
In Q1 of 2014 traffic from search engines is still a little above the 40% of my total traffic. I have improved my traffic from Social media, but I still think I will have a big untapped potential with Facebook and YouTube that I need to work on.
Search Engines (Only Organic traffic):
- Google: 86.99%
- Bing: 6.84%
- Ask: 3.64%
- Yahoo: 1.50%
- Yandex: 0.41%
Google is as always the king of search. Bing is still fighting, but it seems like an unfair match.
Top 5 Referring Sites:
- stumbleupon.com
- search.tb.ask.com
- techtutorials.net
- winxdvd.com
- social.technet.microsoft.com
I still have a lot of success driving traffic to my blog from Stumbleupon. However, the quality of the traffic I get from Stumbleupon might be another matter regarding to bounce rate and exit time of that traffic. I also begin to get decent traffic from Techturials.net. I will have to keep on posting got quality How-to posts there in the future.
Top 10 visitors by Country:
- United States
- Denmark
- India
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Germany
- Canada
- Pakistan
- Bangladesh
- Netherlands
No surprise it is Denmark and the English speaking countries that keeps dominating my top visitors when it comes to geographic.
Key Numbers of Q1 2014
As a new thing in this report, I will share a couple of data I have not revealed with you before:
- Number of Visits to my blog: 7757 visits (9319 visits in last report)
- Bounce Rate: 72.94% (74.16 in last report)
Conclusion of my Traffic Report
Well, not too much have changed traffic wise compared to the last quarter of 2013. I could still use some help from Google to drive more traffic to this blog, but it seems to get harder and harder to impress Google’s Search Engine. On the other hand, it is good not to be to depending on traffic from Google. In fact, it is better to have a good among of traffic from different sources making my traffic less vulnerable. My goals for the next quarter will be to drive more traffic to this blog from Facebook and YouTube and to I will also try to post more often.

Stumbleupon is comming back. For a couple of months, I didn’t see any referalce from there, but in March there were several traffic spikes based on StumbleUpon traffic. My Bing traffic is very low, though latest updates in Google seems to work in my favor.
Stumbleupon is difficult to figure out I think. All the traffic I get from them I consider bonus traffic 🙂
I hope Google soon will make a change that will work for me. I have really been struggling since last summer to get back on track with them.
Hi Thomas, You shared the complete overview about your sites traffic. Great way to increase trust rank of a website.
In fact now i am thinking to post analytic report of my blog. Good to see you on Justretweet 🙂
Hi Tanya
I would love to see a traffic report from you too. Maybe we both can learn something from your numbers too 🙂
Yea, No wonder by sharing our experiences we can actually learn a lot.
Will come soon with the traffic report.
Hey Thomas,
Really a inspireful post. Your analytics data for bloggers like us to check detailed traffic status of ours. Thanks for sharing with us……
You are welcome.
That’s quite awesome and seeing Bangladesh on that country list made me amazed as I never thought it could be there.
Hi Ragib
I just checked and actually 1.5% of all the traffic was from Bangladesh in this period 🙂
Hey Thomas, good to see that your site is getting traffic from top nations. They got better CTR in comparison to other countries. 🙂
i would like to try to get traffic from Youtube, work for it
How come you don’t have Facebook trafic?
Stumbleupon seems to sends you some traffic.
For some reason I am really struggling to get traffic from Facebook. On of the reasons is that I have not been active on Facebook as long as I have on Twitter and Stumbleupon.
I will have to work on it in the future.
Wow!! that’s good analytic report.. I usually get 80% organic traffic which comes through search engines and rest through direct traffic… Well using social Networking sites like Facebook,Stumble Upon,Google Plus etc are good to drive more traffic to your blog.. Btw Nice Article and thanks for sharing 🙂
Hi Thomas,
Nice write up. Could you share some tricks to get traffic from stumbleupon. Because, I am not getting any.
I am not really doing much other than share my posts and Stumble my friends posts too. Maybe it is working good be cause I write about tech stuff, but not sure.
Nice post
First of all I would like to congratulate on your site’s performance. It is really a good report from analytic.Your site is getting traffic from top nations and search engines. Great work
Social media is also a good way of diverting traffic to your website.I am currently working on them. I would like to get some tips for using youtube for generating traffic.
Nice work and thank you for sharing.
Hi Sagar
Thank you for your kind words. I am not sure I am the one to tell you how to use YouTube to generate traffic, because I almost don’t get any traffic from YouTube. One thing you can do is to leave a link back to your site from the about section on your videos. The more videos you have the more links back to your site of cause.
You are doing really good, I mean compared to my traffic, I get no love from Google, and I am trying to keep my traffic to be direct rather then from Google. Direct traffic is forever, it never goes away. But I think you are doing a very good job here man.
Thanks for sharing.
I’ve found Facebook to be just about worthless in driving traffic to my site, and I have over 4,000 friends. The venue I’ve discovered that outshines them all, is Google+. by putting your post in the proper community category, such as science, health, or social media, etc.
Hi Joe
It might also have something to do with the niche you are in and what kind of friends you have on Facebook. That being said I think it is a lot easier to get traffic from Twitter than from Facebook.
Hi Thomas, sharing your site traffic is a good idea. It really helps other bloggers to understand traffic sources.
Thanks Rahul
Hey , Thomas I am from Bangladesh and I think it is normal to see it on the list. Actually Technology blogs are very popular in my country and we are dominating all freelancing sites like odesk, freelancer, elance etc. Ok. Now I need to ask a question what to you mean by saying that your visitor is only 7k. Is it perday or total visitor.?
Hi
I wish it was 7k a day, but it is not. It was 7757 visits for the 3 months in total.
Oh I see. You are getting quality traffic. I wish I could have the most visitors coming from United States Denmark United Kingdom Australia Germany Canada Netherlands. Because Its good to have USA And UK visitors in terms of earning point of view. 🙂 Thanks for the quick reply.
Kudos for getting that many visits from stumbleupon. I never did make any killing with it. Best I got was 15 visits from one stumble. You are probably using better titles than I am.
I am not really sure why it works that well for me with Stubleupon, but it does and that is just great. A lot of people have asked my how I does, but I don’t know what I does that others are not doing.
Congrats again hehe. It could very well matter the time when you are submitting also. Since I am in EUROPE GMT, I might be submiting when all of the U.S.A is sleeping lol
Well I am from Denmark, so I guess that is pretty much the same 🙂
It’s a good report. Anyway, seems no one can trust anymore traffic from search engines, so it’s much better to focus on other ways, like social networking, word of mouth, blog commenting.
Hey Thomas,
your search traffic is really very high.By observing this report, its really a great thing because you are getting high traffic from United states which is high quality traffic.Hope you double your traffic in upcoming days
